CSAT surveys and results

CSAT surveys ask the customer how the conversation went, right after it's resolved. A rating from 1 to 5 plus an optional text comment. Sent in the same channel the conversation happened in (email customers get an email survey, chat customers get an in-widget prompt). Aggregate scores show up in Reports → CSAT; each rating links to its conversation so you can see context.

A CSAT survey in Deskwoot is a one-question rating prompt sent automatically after a conversation is resolved, asking the customer to score their support experience and optionally leave a comment. You configure it per inbox, not globally, and it is available on the Business plan and above. That setup means you can run satisfaction surveys on the inboxes where they matter (say, your main support email) and leave them off elsewhere.

Which plan do I need for CSAT?

CSAT requires the Business plan or higher. On the Hacker and Startup plans the survey settings are locked. If you are on the 7-day Enterprise trial, CSAT is available to test, and it stays available as long as your plan is Business or above after the trial ends. You can compare what each tier includes on the pricing page.

How do I turn on CSAT surveys?

CSAT is set up on each inbox, so you turn it on where you want it rather than account-wide.

  1. Go to Settings > Inboxes and open the inbox you want to survey.
  2. Switch to the inbox's CSAT tab.
  3. Switch on Customer Satisfaction (CSAT), optionally change the Question text and the Rating style, and click Save CSAT Settings.
  4. Repeat for any other inbox where you want surveys. Inboxes you leave off will not send a survey.

Once an inbox has CSAT enabled, the customer gets a short rating prompt in that same channel after their conversation is resolved. They pick a rating and can add an optional written comment.

Where do I see CSAT results?

All ratings roll up into one place regardless of which inbox they came from.

  1. Open Reports from the main sidebar and select the CSAT report.
  2. Set the date range you want to look at.
  3. Read the overall score plus the individual ratings and their comments. The comments are usually where the real signal is.

The CSAT report also feeds the overall CSAT figure you see on the main conversation analytics dashboard, and CSAT per agent shows up in agent performance.

Tips for getting useful CSAT data

  • Resolve while the customer is still around. Surveys fire on resolution, so closing a conversation days after the last message tends to get ignored.
  • Read the low scores first. A bad rating with a comment usually points at a specific, fixable problem.
  • Watch the trend, not single scores. One low rating is noise. A slide over several weeks is worth digging into.
  • Turn it on selectively. Surveying a noisy or internal inbox just adds clutter. Keep CSAT on the inboxes you actually want to measure.

Surveys are not going out

Two things to check. First, confirm CSAT is toggled on for that specific inbox under Settings > Inboxes, since it is set per inbox and not for the whole account. Second, confirm the conversations are actually being resolved and not just left idle. The survey only goes out when the conversation is resolved, by an agent or by a rule, a macro or auto resolve. Conversations in a REST API inbox get no survey.

Frequently asked questions

When does the survey actually go out?
Right after the conversation is resolved: by an agent, a rule, a macro, auto resolve or the customer ending the chat. If a customer reply re-opens it later and the conversation is resolved again, a new survey goes out.
Can I customize the survey question?
Yes, per inbox. Settings → Inboxes → pick inbox → CSAT tab. You can change the Question text and the Rating style (Stars, Hearts, Fire or Smileys) of the live chat survey. The scale is always 1 to 5.
What's a realistic response rate?
10-25% is typical. Email surveys land higher (around 20%); in-chat surveys often hit 30% because the customer is still in the moment. Don't chase 100%.
Is CSAT visible to the agent who handled the conversation?
The rating does not show inside the conversation. It is listed in the CSAT report with a link to the conversation. Administrators see every survey; other members who can open Reports see only the surveys of conversations assigned to them. Opening Reports needs the permission View reports, which you can grant with a custom role on Enterprise.
How are CSAT scores calculated?
The CSAT report shows the average of all ratings on the 1 to 5 scale as a percentage: a 5 counts as 100%, a 4 as 80%, and so on. So ratings of 5, 4 and 3 give 80%. Surveys without an answer count toward the response rate, not the score.
Can I see CSAT per agent?
Yes. Reports → CSAT shows scores By agent, and the Agent filter narrows the report to one agent. Useful for coaching but be careful: the sample sizes per agent can be small and noisy month to month.
Does CSAT work on every channel?
Almost. Live chat shows the survey in the widget, email sends 1 to 5 star links, Telegram shows rating buttons, and on WhatsApp, SMS, LINE and X the customer replies with a number from 1 to 5. Every answer lands in the same report. Conversations in a REST API inbox get no survey.
Why is my CSAT score going down?
Most common cause: response time grew. Customers correlate fast support with good support more than they correlate accurate support with good support. Check first-response-time alongside CSAT.
Can the AI bot trigger a survey too?
The bot does not resolve conversations itself. When a conversation the bot handled is resolved (by an agent, a rule or auto resolve), the survey goes out as usual. Useful for measuring bot quality, not just human-agent quality.
How do I export CSAT for an external dashboard?
On the Reports page, click Export CSAT CSV for the selected date range. The download needs the permission Export reports.
Can customers leave CSAT without rating?
No. A response always needs a rating from 1 to 5. The comment is optional, so customers can rate without writing anything.
Is CSAT set up per inbox or for the whole account?
Per inbox. You enable CSAT inside each inbox's settings under Settings > Inboxes, so you can run it on some inboxes and leave it off on others.
What plan do I need to use CSAT?
The Business plan or above. CSAT is locked on Hacker and Startup. It is available during the 7-day Enterprise trial so you can try it before committing.
When is the survey sent?
Automatically when a conversation is resolved in an inbox that has CSAT turned on. The customer receives it in the same channel where the conversation happened.
Can customers leave a comment with their rating?
Yes. Along with the rating, customers can add an optional text comment, and it appears next to the score in the CSAT report.
Where do I read the results?
In Reports, open the CSAT report. It shows your overall score plus every individual rating and comment across all inboxes for the date range you pick.
