Customizing your portal brand
On this page
Make your help center look like the rest of your brand: your logo in the header, your picture behind the search, your color, your links and your fonts. All of it sits in the Settings tab of the Help Center page and saves by itself. A live help center shows every change to your visitors right away. On Enterprise you can also run it on your own domain and hide "Powered by Deskwoot". This guide describes Help Center 2.0. A help center created before it shows the previous design until you upgrade to Help Center 2.0.
Logo
- Open Help Center in the main navigation and go to the Settings tab.
- Under Branding, click Upload next to Logo and pick a PNG, JPG, WebP or AVIF file of up to 1 MB.
The logo shows at the left of the help center header. A square logo sits next to your portal name; a wide logo that already contains your name replaces it. Use Replace for a new file and Remove logo to go back to the name alone. SVG files are not accepted.
Hero image
The hero image is the wide picture behind the headline and the search on your help center's home page. Article, category and search pages show a strip of it under the header. Upload it under Branding > Hero image: PNG, JPG, WebP or AVIF, up to 3 MB. At least 1600 pixels wide looks sharp on large screens. Without an image, the hero uses a soft gradient in your brand color.
No picture of your own? Under Or pick one of our paintings you choose one of 9 paintings from the Deskwoot website, such as Lake with jetty or Balloon at sunrise. On phones a portrait version fills the band where one exists. Whether the text on the picture is light or dark, how strong the shade over it is and which part stays in view is set under Appearance, see Advanced help center branding.
Brand color
The brand color is used for links, buttons and other accents across your help center, and for the browser tab icon when you set no favicon. Enter a hex code such as #1A73E8 or use the color picker. Choose a color with enough contrast against white, so links stay easy to read.
Header links
Under Header links you add up to 6 links to the help center header, for example back to your website, to your app or to a sign in page. For each link you set:
- a Label and an address that starts with
https://ormailto:, - a style: Menu link (next to the logo), Link on the right or Button (a filled button on the right).
Click + Add link for a new row and use the arrows to change the order. A link is saved once it has a label and a valid address. With the language tabs (EN, DE, PT, HI) you give each label its own translation. A label without a translation shows in English. On small screens the links move into the menu.
Fonts
- Font under Appearance sets the font of the whole help center: System default, Instrument Sans, Inter, Roboto, Open Sans, Lato, Poppins, Montserrat, Nunito, Source Sans or Plus Jakarta Sans.
- Heading font sets page titles and section headings. Same as the page font is the default.
- Reading font sets the font of your article text. Same as the page font keeps one font everywhere. Literata is a calm serif made for long reading, and every page font can be picked here too.
Support email
Enter a Support email and your help center offers it in Still need help?, so visitors can reach a person. When the chat widget is off, it is also the way to your team under an AI answer in the search. Leave it empty to show no email address.
Favicon, title and subtitle
The Favicon is the icon in the browser tab. Under Branding, click Upload next to Favicon and pick a square PNG or WebP from 32 to 1024 pixels wide, up to 256 KB. Without one, the tab shows the first letter of your portal name on your brand color, and your help center never shows the Deskwoot icon. The Page title is the large heading on the home page, and the Subtitle is the line under it.
Own domain and white label (Enterprise)
Your help center lives at your-slug.deskwoot.com. On the Enterprise plan you can run it on a domain you own, such as help.yourcompany.com, with a free SSL certificate. See Set up a custom domain for your help center. Enterprise can also hide "Powered by Deskwoot" in the footer, see White label your help center. Theme and colors, the hero text, shade and crop, corners, header style, collection icons, the parts of article pages, your own section headings, custom CSS and your own header or footer HTML are in Advanced help center branding.
Frequently asked questions
Can I upload my logo?
Yes. In the Settings tab under Branding, upload a PNG, JPG, WebP or AVIF file of up to 1 MB. It shows in the help center header.
What size should the hero image be?
Wide, at least 1600 pixels across, and up to 3 MB. It sits behind the headline and the search, so a calm picture without text works best.
Can I use a picture without uploading one?
Yes. Pick one of our paintings under Branding > Or pick one of our paintings. You can switch to your own upload at any time.
Can header links point to my app's sign in page?
Yes. Any address that starts with https:// works, and mailto: for an email link. Pick Button to make it stand out.
Do header links change with the language?
Yes, if you translate them. Use the language tabs in Header links to give a label its German, Portuguese or Hindi version. Without one, the English label shows.
What does the reading font change?
Only the text of your articles. Headers, menus and the home page keep the page font.
Why is SVG not accepted for the logo?
An SVG file can carry script, and nothing cleans an uploaded SVG. Save your logo as PNG or WebP instead.
Can I undo a branding change?
Partly. The design history in the Design tab keeps changes to the brand color, page title, subtitle, header links, custom CSS, the home page sections and the look options under Appearance such as corners and the hero text. Logo, hero image, fonts, theme colors, favicon and support email are not part of it.
Does the brand color change my chat widget?
No. The chat widget has its own appearance settings in your live chat inbox. See Customizing your chat widget.
